Checklist
What to check before relying on an app in Thailand.
A simple, practical list for travelers and residents who want apps that are useful, understandable, and respectful of their data.
1. Confirm the app's actual purpose
Read the app description, screenshots, and recent reviews. A trustworthy app should clearly explain what it does and should not depend on confusing buttons, disguised ads, or vague incentive language.
2. Review permissions before first use
Navigation apps may need location access, camera translation may need camera access, and cloud documents may need storage access. Give only the permissions needed for the feature you plan to use.
3. Look for offline support
Offline maps, saved translation packs, downloaded tickets, and stored itinerary notes are especially helpful during flights, on islands, or in areas with weak mobile signal.
4. Understand pricing
Check whether the app is free, ad-supported, subscription-based, or has one-time purchases. Pricing should be visible before purchase and should not be framed as a certain outcome.
5. Keep important decisions separate
Apps are helpful for planning, but important matters such as visas, official documents, medical needs, legal questions, and travel safety should be verified with qualified sources.
